Why georgette drapes so well
Georgette is a light crepe fabric woven from tightly twisted yarn, which gives it a slightly grainy feel and a fluid fall. It holds pleats well and does not stand away from the body, so it is flattering on most figures.
Pure or synthetic
Pure (silk) georgette is soft with a gentle sheen; polyester georgette is more affordable, wrinkle-resistant and easy to maintain. Both take prints, embroidery and sequin work well.
Care
Dry clean embellished georgette. Plain synthetic georgette can be hand washed gently in cold water and dried in shade.
Questions buyers ask
Is georgette good for summer?
It is light and quick-drying, though synthetic georgette breathes less than cotton or chiffon.
Does a georgette saree wrinkle?
Very little — that is one reason it is popular for travel and long events.
